Star of new NBC show 'Brilliant Minds' has a unique connection to 12News and the Valley

PHOENIX — Tamberla Perry will take on a role that intersects with her sister’s past. The new NBC drama “Brilliant Minds” will air on 12News, the same network where her sister, DeShong Perry, started her career in producing newscasts.

Tamberla Perry revealed her enthusiasm upon reading the script of “Brilliant Minds”. “I knew right away that it was a role I wanted to play. I loved the script, I loved the character,” she said.

Her excitement extended to her sister DeShong Perry, who reacted with elation upon hearing the news. “I dropped to the ground and screamed. This was our moment,” she reported.

“Brilliant Minds,” slated to premiere September 23 after “The Voice” on 12News, features Tamberla in a role tied to her sister’s historical connection to the network.

DeShong reminisced about her early days at 12News. “For the first six months, I had no babysitter. My daughter would sleep under my desk during my overnight shifts,” she recalled, underscoring the sacrifices she made early in her career.

Tamberla’s resilience over her 18-year acting career aligns with her sister’s perseverance. “This role is hugely special to me. The show emphasizes that mental health is real and can affect anyone at any time,” she stated.

Co-starring Zachary Quinto as Dr. Oliver Wolf, “Brilliant Minds” derives inspiration from the life and work of neurologist Dr. Oliver Sacks. The drama delves into the inner workings of the human mind, set in the fictional Bronx General Hospital.

The series promises a compelling narrative. “She is fiercely loyal to Dr. Oliver Wolf, recruiting him to Bronx General to create a neuropsychology Dream Team,” Tamberla Perry added.

DeShong and their mother, Josephine, visited Tamberla on set, marking a family milestone. “We believe when one of us wins, we all win. Being there to watch her was a win for me too,” DeShong reflected.

“Brilliant Minds” starts its run on September 23, engaging viewers with its unique take on mental health and neurological exploration.
