Nasal and Teething Swabs May Harbor Hidden Microbial Contamination Risks

WASHINGTON — A nationwide recall of certain nasal and teething swabs has been issued due to potential fungal contamination. Church & Dwight announced the voluntary recall of Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Swabs, Zicam Nasal AllClear Swabs, and Orajel Baby Teething Swabs on Friday.
The fungal contamination poses significant health risks, particularly life-threatening blood infections. Children and individuals with weakened immune systems are at the highest risk. Currently, there have been no reported illnesses linked to this recall.
Specific products included in the recall are as follows: Zicam® Cold Remedy Nasal Swabs (UPC 732216301205), Zicam® Nasal AllClear Swabs (UPC 732216301656), and Orajel Baby Teething Swabs (UPC 310310400002). All lots of these items are affected.
These products were distributed across the United States and Puerto Rico. Consumers are strongly advised to stop using them immediately.
