Mystery in the Wilderness: YCSO Probes Fatal Camping Incident Involving Peoria Resident

A Peoria man was fatally shot during a camping trip near Prescott, Arizona, after he and a friend concluded a skunk-hunting session, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office.

The tragic incident took place on the night of July 26 at the UCYC Camp. Deputies were called in to address reports of a man having been shot in the abdomen. The 22-year-old succumbed to his injuries the next day.

Authorities revealed that the accidental shooting happened when the friend, assuming the gun was unloaded, pulled the trigger, leading to the fatal discharge. The deceased was reportedly slated to be the shooter’s best man at his forthcoming wedding.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office has stated that the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
