Multi-Car Crash Strands Drivers, Leaves One Injured in Town Exit Jam

A multi-car pileup on John Wayne Parkway at Smith-Enke Road has resulted in significant traffic disruption for northbound lanes out of Maricopa. The incident occurred at approximately 1:45 p.m. on August 22, 2024, involving a white Toyota Highlander SUV, a company van from ATI Restoration, and at least two other vehicles.

According to Assistant Maricopa City Manager Jennifer Brown, the collision was a chain reaction initiated when one vehicle rear-ended another. “One person sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital,” she reported. As of 2:15 p.m., northbound traffic was being diverted onto Smith-Enke Road due to the blockade. Tow trucks are currently working to remove the damaged vehicles from the intersection, which is known to be the city’s busiest.
