A multi-car pileup on John Wayne Parkway at Smith-Enke Road has resulted in significant traffic disruption for northbound lanes out of Maricopa. The incident occurred at approximately 1:45 p.m. on August 22, 2024, involving a white Toyota Highlander SUV, a company van from ATI Restoration, and at least two other vehicles.

According to Assistant Maricopa City Manager Jennifer Brown, the collision was a chain reaction initiated when one vehicle rear-ended another. “One person sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital,” she reported. Preliminary findings indicate that neither drugs nor alcohol were contributing factors in the accident.

As of 2:15 p.m., northbound traffic was being diverted onto Smith-Enke Road due to the blockade. Tow trucks are currently working to remove the damaged vehicles from the intersection, which is known to be the city’s busiest.

Emergency services, including the Maricopa Fire/Medical Department, are on-site to assess the situation and provide assistance. The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing, with details expected to emerge as authorities gather more information.
