Food bank gets boost from Mt. Olive before holiday season

This October, while many in Lake Havasu City embrace the Halloween spirit, the volunteers at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church are diligently preparing for the upcoming holiday season. Their annual Holiday ReSale event kicked off on Thursday, focusing on offering various used and handcrafted items suitable for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Housed at 2170 Havasupai Blvd, the event aims to support the Havasu Community Health Foundation Food Bank. Proceeds will help ensure that the food bank can provide holiday meals to local residents facing food insecurity.

Organizer Barbara Hanson noted the event’s significance, stating, “This is our third year doing this. We have quite a few volunteers from the congregation who work at the food bank, and it’s important at this time of year to give them support for holiday meals.”

Last year’s sale generated approximately $1,200, and with increased advertising efforts, there is optimism for higher turnout this year. “A lot of times when customers buy things here, they’ll round up, and that is a blessing,” Hanson added, emphasizing the community spirit behind the initiative. Unused decorations will also be donated to the Hospice of Havasu store after the sale concludes, broadening the impact of their efforts.

The Holiday ReSale will continue today from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and wrap up on Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon, inviting all to contribute to a worthy cause.
