Hike in the moonlight July 9 at Red Rock State Park

Red Rock State Park has unveiled its events for July, catering to nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike.

Beginning with a popular attraction, the Moonlight Hike is scheduled for Wednesday, July 9, at 6:15 p.m. Participants will embark on a guided experience with volunteer naturalists, witnessing a breathtaking moonrise from an overlook. The hike covers approximately 2 to 2 and a half miles and lasts between two to two and a half hours. Registration is set at $20 per person, with prior reservation required from June 11. Participants must be at least 12 years old and are urged to arrive 30 minutes early. Proper attire for cool temperatures, closed-toe shoes, and essentials like water and a flashlight are recommended.

Daily guided nature walks occur at 8:30 a.m., led by knowledgeable volunteer naturalists. These walks explore the various life zones within the park, touching on topics such as geology, wildlife, and archaeology. This experience is included with park entrance fees, with no prior reservations needed. Note that from June to September, the start time shifts slightly to 9 a.m., while from October through May, it is set for 10 a.m.

For bird watching aficionados, the park offers guided Bird Walks every Wednesday and Saturday at 7 a.m. These walks accommodate both beginner and advanced birders, providing rich opportunities to observe diverse avian species in the riparian areas next to Oak Creek or behind the Visitor Center. The walk leader meets participants at the viewing deck above the Visitor Center. While reservations are not required, those keen on independent birding can start at the Hummingbird Patio or the Visitor Center roof. Seasonal timings for the bird walks vary, with adjustments made for different months.

Whether seeking adventure under the moonlight or delving into the wonders of nature, Red Rock State Park offers a variety of enriching experiences this July.
