Mondo Duplantis Shatters His Own Olympic Pole Vault World Record
PARIS, France — Mondo Duplantis shattered his own pole vault world record Monday night at the Olympics, soaring to 6.25 meters (20 feet, 6 inches). This achievement crowned his second consecutive gold-medal triumph on the sport’s grandest stage.
On his third and final attempt, Duplantis successfully cleared the record height. Notably, this marks the ninth instance the 24-year-old Louisiana-born athlete, who represents Sweden through his mother, has set a new world record, but it’s the first occasion he’s done so at the Olympics.
Previously, Duplantis set the record on April 20 in China. This time, America’s Sam Kendricks secured the silver medal, and Greece’s Emmanouli Karalis earned the bronze.
