Mohave County tax rates up for final approval

Mohave County’s governing board will deliberate on approving tax rates for the 2025 fiscal year following the budget approval in June. A total of 81 tax levies are on the table this year, with the Mohave County Board of Supervisors controlling only four.

On Monday, county officials will vote on primary property tax rates and secondary property taxes, encompassing the county’s flood control district, library district, and television improvement district. Arizona law necessitates that these rates be approved by the third Monday in August.

The proposed primary tax rate for this year is 1.7547%. This rate is anticipated to generate approximately $45.1 million by next June, as per county records. The flood control district will have a tax rate of 0.5%, the library district 0.2548%, and the television improvement district 0.563%. These secondary taxes are expected to yield a levy of $19.4 million.

Overall, the combined primary and secondary property tax rate for the county will be 2.5658%, translating to $2.5658 per $100 of assessed property value for homeowners in Mohave County.

Rising property values have led to increased tax revenue, although tax rates have remained stable for the past three years. Officials project a collection of $65,512,793 in property tax revenue this fiscal year, an increase from $62,442,817 in FY24.

Interestingly, while the combined tax rate was 1.474% higher in FY2015, this generated almost $18 million less in revenue for the county compared to current figures.

Taxes not overseen by the Mohave County Board of Supervisors include those for Mohave Community College, 14 school districts, 14 fire districts, and multiple improvement districts throughout the county.

The governing board is scheduled to vote on the county tax rates at their upcoming meeting on Monday in Kingman.
