Mohave County Sherriff's Office announces passing of Search and Rescue K9 Rei

KINGMAN — The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team reported the passing of Rei, a 5-year-old Belgian Malinois renowned for her work in locating missing persons. Tragically, Rei succumbed to complications related to Valley Fever last Friday.

Rei’s contributions to the community were significant; she played a vital role in numerous search operations, helping to reunite families with their loved ones. Her loss marks a profound moment for the team and the community, who relied heavily on her skills and determination.

Valley Fever, a fungal infection endemic to the Southwest, poses a serious health risk, particularly to working dogs like Rei. The Sheriff’s Office expressed their condolences and highlighted the importance of recognizing the challenges these animals face.

Rei will be remembered not only for her exceptional service but also for the bond she created with her handlers and the community she served. Her legacy will continue through the ongoing efforts of the Search and Rescue team.
