Mohave County HR Director Steps Down After Over a Decade of Service
Mohave County is in search of a new Human Resources Director following Ken Cunningham’s resignation. The departure, while anticipated, marks the end of Cunningham’s tenure, which began over a decade ago.
Cunningham, who plans to retire officially on November 15, has accepted a position as HR Manager with the GEO private prison starting November 18. “I planned on retiring, but when I was offered another job, I decided to take it,” he explained.
In his resignation notice dated October 24, Cunningham expressed his appreciation for the support he received from County Manager Sam Elters. Elters acknowledged Cunningham’s contributions, noting his integrity and leadership during challenging times in the Human Resources Department.
“Ken has served Mohave County well for over ten years,” Elters commented. “His ability to provide stability in difficult employment periods is commendable.”
Cunningham emphasized that his departure has been amicable, indicating no underlying issues. “I’ve been asked to reconsider my decision, but after 11 years, I just need a change,” he stated.
The position for the County HR Director will remain open until filled. Cunningham anticipates that interviews might begin in early December or early January, depending on the volume of applications received.
Elters stressed the significance of the Human Resources Director role, particularly given the oversight of a workforce comprising 1,150 members. “The value of a talented HR Director cannot be overstated,” he affirmed. The county seeks candidates who offer a blend of talent, innovation, and experience to lead the department successfully.
