Minuteman’s Robertson Prioritizes Safety in Public Armament Initiative
The Minuteman Supply Co., located in Maricopa, Arizona, is owned by Pearle Robertson, a Navy veteran and mother of four who has carved a niche in the firearms industry. Robertson, who started her career in a Las Vegas gun range, has come a long way from her humble beginnings. With her soft-spoken demeanor, she challenges the stereotype typically associated with gun shop owners, focusing instead on education and creating a welcoming environment for new buyers.
Robertson’s path to ownership was serendipitous. “I just happened upon it,” she said, reflecting on her journey that included working in various gun shops in Phoenix and Tempe. In 2021, she established her shop at 41620 W. Maricopa Casa Grande Highway. The store not only sells firearms but also offers hunting and survival gear, catering to a diverse clientele.
Employing four local individuals, the Maricopa location also features an online shopping option designed to ease customer apprehension. Online purchases require in-person pickup, allowing customers a hands-on experience before making a final decision.
When it comes to carrying firearms, Robertson advocates for situational awareness. “There’s a time and place for it,” she remarked, distinguishing between open and concealed carry. With over 15 years of experience in both practices, she advises individuals to consider the context of their environment. “I want to be the surprise,” she said, suggesting that discretion can provide a tactical advantage.
As a “constitutional carry” state, Arizona permits residents to open carry at age 18 and conceal carry at 21, provided there are no felony convictions. Robertson notes that despite this, gun permits remain popular, offering validity in 38 other states.
The store’s most popular handgun is the P365 XMacro 9-millimeter Luger, praised for its balance and recoil management. In terms of rifles, local customers gravitate towards AR models, citing versatility for various purposes, from small game hunting to recreational shooting.
Robertson’s focus on education extends beyond simply selling firearms; she aims to empower women and families. With her NRA instructor certification, she specializes in training women and children on firearm safety. “I’ve had a pretty high percentage of female customers,” she stated, emphasizing her mission to create a comfortable space for those new to firearms. This initiative developed when she observed community members traveling long distances to seek services that catered to their needs.
Opening during the pandemic wasn’t easy. Robertson recalls days when supply chain disruptions left her with limited stock. Today, however, Minuteman Supply Co. offers a wide range of common ammunition calibers, ensuring that customers are well-equipped for their needs.
