Midday Traffic Grind: Back-to-Back Crashes Jam Same Intersection

Maricopa emergency services responded to two separate vehicle accidents today at the intersection of John Wayne Parkway and Smith-Enke Road, both linked to the recently opened CVS shopping center plaza. The first incident occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m., when a driver turning west from the plaza collided with oncoming traffic, resulting in minor damage.
Another accident followed about an hour later. At 12:30 p.m., a driver exiting the plaza attempted to turn east but failed to yield to an oncoming vehicle, leading to a collision. City spokeswoman Monica Williams confirmed that two sedans were involved, one sustaining significant front-end damage while the other suffered a crushed driver’s side door.
Paramedics assessed both drivers at the scene. One individual was observed with an injured arm in a sling, while the other received evaluation from emergency personnel. Despite the circumstances, Williams reported that no serious injuries were recorded, and no one required ambulance transport.
The damaged sedan ended up on the sidewalk, raising questions about how it jumped the curb. Traffic faced temporary delays during the investigation, but by 1:00 p.m., all vehicles were cleared, and normal flow resumed.
