Medics tend to Noah Lyles, cart him away from track after men's 200 final

PARIS, France — Noah Lyles, the recent Olympic champion in the men’s 100-meter dash, was dramatically taken off the track after failing to secure a sprint double in the 200 meters. He was subsequently diagnosed with COVID-19.

After finishing third in the 200 meters, Lyles collapsed and was attended to by medics. An insider, speaking on condition of anonymity, disclosed that Lyles received the COVID diagnosis just two days prior to the final race.

This marks the second consecutive Olympics where Lyles has faced COVID-related challenges. During the Tokyo Olympics, he also won a bronze medal and later revealed that pandemic-induced delays and empty stands contributed to depression, affecting his performance and motivating his comeback in Paris.

Television coverage showed Lyles wearing a medical mask just minutes before the 200-meter final. Notably, he was also seen masked during the 200-meter semifinals on Wednesday.

Lyles is among several Olympians impacted by COVID-19 at the Paris Games. British swimmer Adam Peaty tested positive for the virus less than 24 hours following his silver-medal win in the 100-meter breaststroke.
