MCSO identifies suspect in New River pastor's homicide, say crime was 'religious' in nature

PHOENIX — The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the arrest of Adam Sheafe in connection with the homicide of pastor William “Bill” Schonemann. Schonemann, 76, was discovered dead at his residence in New River on April 28.

The investigation revealed that the motive behind the crime was deemed “religious” by the sheriff’s office, though specific details were not disclosed. Authorities indicated that Sheafe had intentions of targeting additional victims in the future.

No relationship has been established between Sheafe and Schonemann. Initially, authorities considered the circumstances surrounding Schonemann’s death as suspicious, later confirming it as a homicide.

On June 6, officials announced they had identified the suspect, who was already in custody on unrelated charges in a different jurisdiction. Further details regarding the case are expected to be released soon.

This is a developing story, and more updates will follow as information becomes available.
