The Pima Community College Aztecs volleyball team recorded a significant victory on Friday, defeating Phoenix College at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium. With this win, the team’s record improves to 9-6 overall and 6-2 in the ACCAC standings.

The second set proved more challenging for the Aztecs, who found themselves down 10-4 and later 21-13. However, they mounted a comeback, narrowing the gap to 22-19 before Phoenix scored three of the last four points to square the match at one set apiece.

Pima rebounded in the third set, maintaining control throughout and achieving a 25-11 victory. Contributions from players were pivotal, with sophomore Haylee Gilleland’s three kills and freshman Addy Fisher’s impressive back-to-back aces helping secure the lead.

The fourth set showcased competitive back-and-forth play. The Aztecs led 22-17 but faltered as the Bears surged to win the set 25-23, pushing the match into a decisive tiebreaker.
