Former Arizona State Representative Cory McGarr has announced his intention to run for the position of Chairman of the Republican Party of Arizona (AZGOP). This decision comes on the heels of a recent success for the party under previous leadership.

On his X account, McGarr expressed pride in Arizona’s performance during the last elections, stating, “Thanks to our Party’s incredible grassroots and the most robust ballot chase operation in the history of the Republic, Arizona delivered a resounding victory for President Donald Trump and Republicans at nearly every level of the ballot.”

He emphasized the importance of strong leadership in the upcoming years, noting, “During these crucial first two years of the incoming Trump administration, it is imperative that we have an AZGOP Chairman committed to the job and ensuring President Trump has the support he needs and deserves in this critical swing state.” McGarr also made a pledge to enhance grassroots efforts, advocate for the America First agenda, secure elections, and boost Republican representation in the midterms.

Kari Lake, a former Arizona Republican Governor and Senate candidate, endorsed McGarr, labeling him a “grassroots legend” who is devoted to achieving true election integrity. Additionally, his campaign has garnered support from Arizona National Committeeman Jake Hoffman and National Committeewoman Liz Harris.

McGarr, who served one term in the legislature, recently lost his seat due to a strategic decision by Democrats to run a single-shot candidate in his district. His colleagues have rallied behind him, with his seatmate facing defeat as well.

This race could potentially pit McGarr against incumbent chair Gina Swoboda, who has been at the helm since early this year after the position became vacant. Swoboda’s tenure saw significant accomplishments, including raising funds for the party and securing Trump’s victory in Arizona. Trump won the state with a larger margin than in 2016, and Republicans strengthened their hold in both the state House and Senate.

Swoboda’s leadership has earned her a prior endorsement from Donald Trump, emphasizing her role in his Arizona triumph as a key aspect of her tenure.

As the Arizona GOP gears up for crucial statewide contests, including the races for Governor and Attorney General, the upcoming AZGOP meeting in Phoenix will create an opportunity for members to determine who they believe can lead the party forward in this pivotal election cycle.
