Mayor Beck Champions Peoria as a Thriving Hub for Businesses
By Daniel Stefanski |
Peoria’s first-term mayor is steering the city toward economic growth and sustainability. Jason Beck, in an op-ed published late last month, outlined initiatives aimed at solidifying Peoria as a prime location for businesses while enhancing opportunities for residents.
In a council meeting on September 17, Beck announced that the Peoria City Council approved amendments to the Peoria General Plan 2024. He emphasized that these changes would significantly enhance the city’s economic landscape and improve residents’ quality of life.
A key focus of the amendments is the designation of new state land, encompassing the 1,620-acre North Peoria Gateway and the 6,700-acre Peoria Innovation Core. Beck highlighted that this would allow the city to cultivate a cohesive master plan, promoting well-organized growth rather than disjointed development.
Addressing community concerns, the mayor assured that this new designation would not alter zoning laws or compromise the protections for natural resources. He reaffirmed that existing city ordinances would continue to safeguard the landscapes and wildlife cherished by Peoria residents.
Beck expressed his commitment to building a resilient future for Peoria. He aims to strike a balance between economic development and environmental protection, suggesting that upcoming council meetings will explore further strategies for growth.
Under Beck’s leadership, Peoria is positioning itself as a burgeoning economic hub in Arizona. Drawing from his experience with TYR Tactical, one of the city’s largest employers, he has shaped a forward-looking economic vision. Prior to taking office, Beck campaigned for a city-owned airport, projecting thousands of jobs and substantial economic impact, while advocating for a business-friendly culture that operates with speed and efficiency.
