A voter registration drive hosted by the “Greeks for Trump” group at Arizona State University (ASU) drew significant attendance last week, occurring shortly after a violent incident at the ASU West Campus in Glendale. The event, held at the Memorial Union, featured prominent figures such as Turning Point USA’s Charlie Kirk and Republican Senate candidate Kari Lake. Attendees were treated to ‘MAGA’ merchandise and food from Raising Cane’s, as reported by the State Press.

Kirk took to X to announce the turnout, stating, “Today we hosted a Voter Registration event at ASU with another MASSIVE turnout. Thousands of students showed up and HUNDREDS of new Gen Z voters got registered.” His assertive message highlighted the enthusiastic atmosphere at the campus this election season.

Lake echoed the rallying cry, telling the audience, “We’re going to get you registered to vote. We’re going to save our country, and we’re going to Make America Great Again.” Throughout the event, around 100 participants remained engaged at any moment, signaling strong interest among the student body.

The turnout attracted attention from both supporters and critics. Kirk shared reactions from detractors who expressed discomfort with the visible support for the Republican agenda. He quoted individuals who described their feelings as “disturbed” and “scared” by the crowd wearing MAGA hats.

Notably, Ruby Halperinn, a volunteer with Turning Point Action, reported a hostile encounter during the drive. She claimed a protester hurled a drink at her, asserting the left’s reaction to their growing momentum. “THIS IS THE LEFT. They know we are winning this election and it scares them,” she wrote on X.

Lake supported Halperinn’s sentiments, suggesting that the surge in young voters registering as Republicans indicates a fear among opposing factions. “They know that thousands of kids at every university are registering Republican,” she remarked, emphasizing the significance of the Gen Z demographic in upcoming elections.

Supporters described the crowd as massive, with estimates of “HUNDREDS of students” participating actively. Afonso Machado, a political science student, stressed the importance of voter registration, stating, “We need you to register to vote; we need you to engage so we can show America that this conservative movement is growing.”

Excitement carried beyond the initial event, as reports emerged of fraternity members at Sigma Nu also registering voters at an event with Lake. Nick Moore, involved in organizing the event, shared that dozens of participants registered in Tempe, expressing gratitude toward Sigma Nu for their involvement.

Recent data from the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office indicates a GOP lead in voter registration, with Republicans surpassing Democrats by 259,270 registered voters. The statistics illustrate a shifting political landscape within the state, as reflected in the numbers:

Libertarian: 30,934 (0.75%)
