Heavy traffic backup on Interstate 10 near 7th Street

Westbound Interstate 10 has been reopened near 7th Street following a temporary closure due to an emergency situation involving law enforcement. The Arizona Department of Transportation reported that while traffic flow has resumed, delays are still expected in the area.

The closure occurred when Phoenix police responded to reports of a man on the overpass sign above the freeway. In response, authorities shut down both the westbound lanes of I-10 and the adjacent 7th Street. Officers from the Phoenix Police Department and the Department of Public Safety engaged in negotiations with the individual.

Eventually, the man was safely brought down and taken for medical evaluation. Despite the reopening of the freeway, authorities advise drivers to seek alternative routes to avoid lingering congestion.
