Large, uncontrolled eastside brushfire spreads to vehicles

A brushfire erupted near Anderson Road and La Brea Road in Maricopa on March 11, 2025. The blaze, attributed to an “unauthorized fire,” quickly escalated due to high winds, according to the Maricopa Fire and Medical Department (MFMD).

By the time firefighting crews arrived at approximately 2:10 p.m., the fire had spread across three properties, becoming a fully involved brush fire. MFMD spokesperson Monica Williams reported that there was immediate focus on several inoperable vehicles that had ignited, with assistance from the Ak-Chin Fire and Chandler Fire Departments. Nearby residents also helped create a fire break by moving vehicles.

“Crews were able to stop forward progress and contain the fire to approximately 6 acres,” Williams shared. She confirmed that no structures sustained damage and there were no reported injuries.

The fire sparked at a wrecker lot owned by Building Paradise LLC, where witnesses reported that a Cadillac sedan and trailer caught fire. As the blaze produced significant smoke visible from various points in town, local authorities advised residents sensitive to smoke to remain indoors until conditions improved.

In response to ongoing fire danger, the National Weather Service has issued red flag warnings for multiple Arizona counties, including Pinal, citing hot, dry, and windy weather as primary factors. Emergency crews continue to monitor the situation and assess any further risks in the area.

Brian Petersheim Jr. contributed to this report.
