A significant arms seizure was reported in southern Arizona, raising alarms about cross-border crime. Michael W. Humphries, the Port Director of Nogales, announced via X that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers discovered a rocket launcher and two rocket-propelled grenades concealed in a vehicle destined for Mexico.

Humphries emphasized the nature of the find, suggesting it was likely meant to protect drug cartels and their fentanyl labs in Mexico. The announcement underscores ongoing concerns about the exchange of weapons across the U.S.-Mexico border, a topic recently highlighted by Fox News journalist Bill Melugin.

Arizona Senate President Warren Petersen weighed in on the incident. He criticized the federal and state leadership for what he regards as insufficient efforts to secure the southern border. “This is a grim reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers are facing,” Petersen remarked, expressing hope for a change in policy with the upcoming presidential administration.

Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels echoed Petersen’s sentiments. He pointed out that the seizure demonstrates the collaboration between transnational criminal organizations and individuals operating within the U.S. This discovery serves as yet another illustration of the complications associated with border security and the need for increased vigilance against outbound traffic.

As President-elect Donald Trump prepares to take office imminently, he and his administration have pledged to intensify efforts in addressing the escalating issues related to border security. This incident adds urgency to those discussions, as authorities work to curtail the flow of arms and drugs across the border.
