Martinez Shines with Two Goals as Sanchez-Hermosillo Dishes Two Assists in Pima’s Dominance Over Paradise Valley
The Pima Community College women’s soccer team (8-2) delivered an impressive performance on the road Saturday, overpowering Paradise Valley Community College (1-7) with a decisive 7-0 victory.
Ranked No. 11, the Aztecs notched their sixth shutout of the season and extended their dominance over the Pumas, having outscored them 13-0 across two regular season matches. Earlier in the season, the Aztecs secured a 6-0 win at West Campus Aztec Field.
Freshman Ashley Martinez (Sunnyside HS) contributed significantly, scoring two goals in the second half, both crucial for sealing the win. Kassandra Vasquez assisted the first, while sophomore Ariela Sanchez-Hermosillo (Sahuaro HS) provided the second assist.
Sanchez-Hermosillo showcased her playmaking skills throughout the match, assisting freshman Yatana Acosta (Tucson Magnet HS) for a goal in the 78th minute, further extending the Aztecs’ lead.
The scoring started early with freshman Kristal Navarro (Tucson Magnet HS) netting a goal in the 9th minute. Sophomore Solaris Graves (Ironwood Ridge HS) played a pivotal role, scoring in the 20th minute after assisting freshman Kamelani Peralta (Tucson Magnet HS) for the Aztecs’ second goal in the 10th minute.
Lizzie Walker (Canyon del Oro HS) also contributed to the scoreboard, making it 4-0 in the 28th minute with assistance from sophomore Uriah Burrell (Catalina Foothills HS).
The Aztecs dominated the match with a staggering 23-1 advantage in shots. Freshman Phoebe Knisley (Canyon del Oro HS) recorded one save during the game.
Pima will return to West Campus Aztec Field on Tuesday for a matchup against Mesa Community College, with kickoff slated for 7 p.m.
