Marissa Gatrate Shines with Two Goals and an Assist, Propelling Pima Women’s Soccer to 3-0 Start

The Pima Community College women’s soccer team, now undefeated at 3-0, showcased a powerful performance on Saturday, defeating Paradise Valley Community College 6-0 during their first home game at the West Campus Aztec Field.
Freshman Marissa Garate made a significant impact, scoring two goals within 16 minutes, establishing dominance for the Aztecs. Her efforts were complemented by her assist in Yatana Acosta’s goal, extending the lead to 5-0 in the 75th minute.
Acosta also contributed an assist to Jessica Alvarez’s goal in the final moments of the match, emphasizing the team’s strong collaboration. Earlier, Lizzie Walker opened the scoring in the 14th minute, with assistance from Samantha Mendez, who played a pivotal role throughout the game.
Camila Razcon added to the tally with a goal in the 30th minute, a play set up by Kamalani Peralta. Mendez’s two assists proved crucial, helping to keep momentum firmly with the Aztecs.
Defensively, the Pima squad excelled, not allowing Paradise Valley any shots on goal. Goalkeepers Phoebe Knisley and Jasmin Delgado shared goalkeeping duties, each maintaining a clean sheet without any saves required.
Looking ahead, the Aztecs will travel to Mesa Community College for their next game on Tuesday, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
