A recent plea on Nextdoor has opened a new chapter for a Province family facing a health crisis. Dawn Calamari, 68, reached out to her neighbors with an urgent request: a kidney donation for her husband, Alex Calamari, 72.

“I know this is an unconventional way to do this, but I am hoping I can find someone who might be willing to be tested to donate a kidney,” she wrote, emphasizing the seriousness of their situation.

Kidney donation entails a complex process. Even when potential donors have compatible blood and tissue types, they are often scarce. Medical institutions meticulously evaluate possible candidates to mitigate the risks associated with such surgeries.

In her heartfelt message, Calamari reassured potential donors. “Your downtime is very minimal, and the medical cost is covered by our insurance,” she stated. “I am hoping we can find a match so I can have more time with my husband.”

The matching process usually spans three to six months, but Dawn confirmed that her donor was already approved.

Community members reacted positively to the news. Rancho El Dorado resident Vickie Sheppard expressed her joy, recalling her brother-in-law’s successful double kidney transplant. “These donations are truly remarkable!” she remarked.

Jenna Spier from Maricopa Meadows added, “If I had an extra working kidney, I would donate it to your hubby immediately,” highlighting the solidarity among neighbors.

Dawn concluded her message by praising the platform. “I know we all get upset with the negativity on Nextdoor, so I was very excited to show you how this website can do something truly miraculous. My husband and I want to THANK everyone for their PRAYERS, KIND WORDS AND LOVE SENT OUR WAY. All of you had a part in making this miracle,” she stated, reflecting the community’s supportive spirit.
