Maricopa Unified School District has announced new leadership appointments at three of its schools. The changes reflect a commitment to enhancing educational quality within the community.

Kevin Sotomayor has been appointed principal of Maricopa High School. With over 29 years of experience as an educator and administrator, he is stepping into high school leadership for the first time. Sotomayor expressed enthusiasm about fostering academic excellence and prioritizing student well-being in his new role.

A graduate of Arizona State University, Sotomayor holds degrees in elementary education and administration. He emphasizes that every student can succeed when supported by strong leadership and a positive environment. Outside of work, Sotomayor enjoys exploring Arizona’s trails in his Jeep and participating in professional barbecue competitions.

At Butterfield Elementary School, Christine Dickinson takes on the role of principal, bringing 20 years of diverse educational experience. Her background includes teaching and serving as both a technology integration specialist and technology director. Dickinson holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and dual master’s degrees in the same field and educational leadership.

Elizabeth Allison has been selected as the planning principal for a new K-8 school set to break ground next month. With 15 years of educational experience, including teaching and administrative roles, she most recently served as principal at Pima Butte Elementary for five years. Allison holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s in administration.

She is eager to contribute to building the school’s culture and mission from the ground up, reflecting the community’s diverse values. “We are committed to fostering a learning environment rooted in belonging and curiosity,” Allison stated.

These new leadership roles are crucial as the Maricopa Unified School District continues to emphasize academic excellence and community engagement.
