Maricopa Man Receives 44-Year Sentence for Murdering Police Officer

Carlos Maximilliano Galvan, a 44-year-old resident of Maricopa, has been sentenced to 44 years in prison for the death of Tohono O’odham Police Officer Bryan Brown, who was killed five years ago.
On August 27, 2020, Officer Brown responded to a 911 call regarding a vehicle crash at the Desert Diamond Casino in Why, Arizona. Galvan was reported to have collided with a handicapped parking sign outside the casino.
Witnesses indicated that Galvan assaulted two casino employees by hitting their parked vehicle with his truck. Upon Officer Brown’s arrival, Galvan approached aggressively, holding a broken bottle.
In a swift turn of events, Galvan jumped into Officer Brown’s police cruiser and drove towards Brown and a U.S. Border Patrol agent who was present to assist. The agent narrowly avoided the vehicle, but Galvan struck Brown, resulting in the officer’s death.
As he fled the scene, Galvan drove across the highway’s center lane, intentionally colliding with the cars of two Border Patrol agents en route to provide support.
FBI Phoenix Acting Special Agent in Charge Jarod Brown emphasized the agency’s commitment to holding violent offenders accountable. “Today is a day for Officer Bryan Brown, and we hope this sentence offers some solace to his family and colleagues,” he stated.
The investigation was carried out by the FBI Phoenix Division’s Tucson Office, with prosecution led by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Frances Kreamer Hope, Alicia Renee Quezada, and Rui Wang.
U.S. Attorney Timothy Courchaine remarked, “This attack on Officer Brown represents an assault on our entire system of justice. We mourn for Officer Brown and honor his dedication to duty. Such acts against law enforcement will not be tolerated.”
