It is unusually quiet at Maricopa High School this week. Typically bustling with around 2,188 students and staff, the campus is now a serene scene while students enjoy their spring break.

This lull offers a timely opportunity for renovation work. Mammoth Sports Construction, a company based in Meridian, Kansas, has set to work on the Rams football field, replacing the old sod with new, weather-resistant turf.

Approved in January, the project carries a budget of $655,000, with additional funds allocated to ensure the new turf remains cooler. On Tuesday morning, crews began the process by tearing up the existing surface.

School officials estimate the entire operation—including laying down the new turf and painting the updated field design—will take approximately two weeks. The completion goal is set for the return of students, ensuring the field is ready for May’s high school graduation.

While awaiting the final design, it has been indicated that the new layout will resemble a version presented to the school board earlier, with adjustments to the Ram mascot’s eye and modifications in the end zone.
