Marana Police Officer placed on administrative leave after alleged drunken off-duty incident

MARANA, Ariz. — A Marana Police Officer is currently on administrative leave following allegations of breaking into a civilian’s vehicle while off duty and allegedly intoxicated.

The incident took place early Sunday morning, around 2 a.m., at Whiskey Roads, a club situated on the northwest side. According to a social media post made by the victim, Officer Daniel Bonn was involved in the altercation, during which he reportedly vandalized the victim’s car.

The victim recounted that he encountered Officer Bonn while returning to his own vehicle after last call. He alleged that Bonn was belligerent and forcibly entered his truck, causing significant damage. The reported costs of the damages amount to approximately $800.

In response, the Marana Police Department has initiated an internal investigation, and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department is assessing whether any criminal activity occurred. Captain Tim Brunenkant of the Marana Police Department stated, “We hold our officers to the highest standards. If violations have occurred, we will conduct a thorough investigation.”

Authorities confirmed that the individual involved in the incident is not affiliated with the police department, emphasizing that he is simply a bystander. Officer Bonn, who has served for five years, will remain on leave until the investigation concludes.

Efforts to contact the victim for further comments have been unsuccessful thus far.
