Residents are urged to attend the upcoming Maricopa City Council meeting on May 6 at 6 p.m. at City Hall. This meeting offers an opportunity for citizens to witness decision-making processes and voice their opinions on critical matters.

The agenda includes several significant topics:

Proclamations and Awards: The council will recognize Mental Health Awareness Month and Water Safety Month, honoring graduates from the Maricopa Citizens Leadership Academy.

Liquor Licenses and Land Use: Two establishments are seeking liquor licenses. Additionally, there is a proposal to replat land in Stonegate for future commercial development, which could impact local businesses.

SR 347 Widening Agreement: A partnership with the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is proposed to advance the design and construction of improvements to State Route 347. This discussion aims to address traffic and road safety concerns.

Proposed Sales Tax Increase: A discussion will revolve around raising the city sales tax by half a percent for up to twenty years to fund the aforementioned road improvements. Essential items like groceries and hotel stays would be exempt from this tax.
