A man has been arrested in connection with a road rage incident involving a Tesla driver near Flagstaff, Arizona. Police identified the suspect as 33-year-old Robert Artherton, who faces charges of disorderly conduct, assault, and aggressive driving.

The Flagstaff Police Department reported that conflicting accounts emerged regarding the events leading up to the violence. Witnesses noted “erratic driving behavior” from both Artherton and the victim, a 61-year-old woman who has chosen to remain anonymous. Video evidence captured Artherton blocking the Tesla with his Chevrolet Cavalier, subsequently exiting his vehicle and unleashing a series of punches on the female driver. Both individuals sustained minor injuries during the confrontation.

FPD stated, “All parties involved allege that the incident was triggered by driving behaviors, honking, and disorderly hand gestures.” The motivations behind the altercation remain unclear as the investigation continues.

The victim shared her perspective with AZ Family, suggesting she was targeted because of her affiliation with Tesla, stating, “I didn’t buy my car for a political statement… I’m ashamed of our society and what they are doing.”

The incident, which occurred earlier this month, has sparked debates regarding the escalating tensions around political affiliations and vehicle choices. Some public commentators have linked the assault to the ongoing division regarding Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s controversial role in politics.

Congressman Abe Hamadeh condemned the attack, asserting, “This needs to stop before more people are hurt.” He highlighted the influence of political rhetoric in fueling such violence.

Congressman Eli Crane echoed these sentiments, labeling the incident as “shameful behavior.”

In response to the rise of violent incidents involving Tesla vehicles, the FBI has announced the formation of a task force aimed at addressing these issues, which they classify as “domestic terrorism.” FBI Director Kash Patel emphasized the agency’s commitment to swift action against those responsible. Attorney General Pam Bondi has also supported these claims, indicating a broader concern about rising violence associated with political expressions.
