Man who police say admitted to killing wife with a machete likely to stand trial

In Kingman, a man is poised to stand trial for the brutal murder of his wife, Lynda Goodin, 53. Anthony Goodin, 59, admitted to the fatal attack, which occurred on July 12 in a Walmart parking lot. During a status conference on Thursday, public defender Paul Amann revealed that the prosecution has not extended any plea deal.

Deputy Mohave County attorney Eric Nolan affirmed the state’s position, stating no resolution will be pursued outside of trial. Consequently, Amann requested the court to schedule a trial date, which Judge Doug Camacho confirmed will be established in a hearing set for October 17.

Despite acknowledging his actions, Goodin has previously pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder charges. He claimed that his wife was “being a witch” and stated that “the wicked must be put to death.” Amann pointed out that Goodin’s strong religious beliefs complicate both communication and legal representation in the case.
