Man Arrested at Sky Harbor Airport with Weapon Following Shooting Incident
12News cameras were rolling when police tackled the man.
PHOENIX — A tense incident unfolded at Sky Harbor Airport on Christmas when 21-year-old Cole Nenon arrived armed with two firearms. Rapid police intervention followed reports of a shooting at the airport earlier that night.
Nenon reportedly handed his guns to an airport employee. He then approached a police officer guarding evidence from the earlier shooting, insisting he wanted to be arrested. Witnesses noted Nenon’s fast approach raised alarm as he displayed aggressive behavior.
As Nenon drew closer, a nearby airport operations employee raised concern while holding a small rifle and handgun, prompting the officer to recognize the dangers posed by Nenon’s actions. The situation escalated; the officer attempted to subdue Nenon, but during the struggle, he was struck in the face, knocking off his glasses.
Despite the initial resistance, a bystander aided the officer in restraining Nenon. During the arrest, Nenon spat at one of the officers. He now faces charges of aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer.
