Major Phoenix Freeway Disruptions Ahead: Key Closures and Restrictions This Weekend, Oct. 25-28

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced significant construction work requiring lane restrictions and closures along several major freeways in the Phoenix area from October 25 to October 28. Motorists are advised to plan for delays and consider alternative routes during this period.
This weekend’s closures include:
- Southbound I-17 will be shut down between Peoria Avenue and Indian School Road, from 9 p.m. Saturday until 9 a.m. Sunday, for pavement sealing. Portions of the road will reopen as work progresses during Sunday morning. Drivers can detour using southbound 19th or 35th avenues.
- Eastbound I-10 is scheduled for closure from 10 p.m. Friday through 4 a.m. Monday for the Broadway Curve Improvement Project. Affected areas include the section between the SR 51 “Mini-Stack” interchange and US 60, in addition to all eastbound on-ramps from Third Street to US 60. Drivers on southbound I-17 will also face closures at Seventh Avenue and Seventh Street beginning at 8 p.m. Friday. Recommended detours include eastbound Loop 202 to southbound Loop 101, or using southbound/eastbound Loop 202 if approaching from the West Valley.
- Westbound Loop 101 will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday between 19th and 51st avenues as part of a widening project. While I-17 ramps to westbound Loop 101 will be shut, the westbound Loop 101 ramps to I-17 will remain open, although heavy traffic is expected. Alternate routes include westbound Union Hills Drive or Bell Road.
- Southbound State Route 51 will also be closed between Loop 101 and the I-10/Loop 202 “Mini-Stack” interchange from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 p.m. Saturday for pavement sealing. Suggested detours include southbound Cave Creek Road.
- Finally, westbound Loop 202 will be reduced to one lane overnight between Priest Drive and 40th Street, from 9 p.m. Sunday to 4 a.m. Monday for maintenance work.
