Major I-17 and I-10 Closures Alert: What You Need to Know for Sept. 27-30

Closures scheduled along I-17, I-10, other locations, Sept. 27-30

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced that drivers can expect significant freeway construction this weekend, from September 27-30. Notably, northbound Interstate 17 will be reduced to a single lane near Loop 303, prompting delays. Additional closures will affect eastbound Loop 101 in the northwest Valley and westbound Interstate 10 in the Chandler and Tempe areas.

Drivers are advised to plan for extended travel times and explore alternate routes during the weekend work on the following roads:

  • Northbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane between Loop 303 and State Route 74/Carefree Highway, starting at 10 p.m. Friday and ending at 5 a.m. Monday (Sept. 30). This restriction is for pavement improvements. Jomax Road will be closed at I-17, preventing right turns from northbound I-17. Additionally, Dixileta Drive will be closed near Phoenix’s North Gateway Transfer Station, further limiting traffic flow.
  • Westbound I-10 will be closed between Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) and US 60 (Superstition Freeway) during the same timeframe for paving and a traffic shift. Drivers should note the closure of the westbound I-10 on-ramp at Wild Horse Pass Boulevard along with several off-ramps on US 60.
  • Eastbound Loop 101 will also see closures from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Sept. 30), affecting traffic between 75th and 51st avenues as part of the initial widening project.

Detour options include using eastbound Loop 202 for westbound I-10 traffic and local streets for Loop 101 drivers. ADOT recommends traveling during off-peak times, such as early mornings or nighttime, when road conditions may be more favorable.

For more detailed information on detours and restrictions, drivers can consult the ADOT website or view the Weekend Travel Advisory map.
