Major I-10 Collision Sends Three, Including Officer, to Hospital

CHANDLER, Ariz. — A crash involving a Gila River Police patrol car caused significant traffic delays in the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 near Riggs Road during rush hour on Monday.
The multi-vehicle collision occurred near milepost 168. One Gila River police officer sustained minor injuries, while two civilians were reported with serious injuries. All three individuals were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
The incident involved four vehicles, with three suffering severe damage. One vehicle was notably crushed underneath the police SUV, its rear end completely torn off.
As of now, officials have not disclosed the cause of the crash, but an update is anticipated on Tuesday morning.
Traffic was significantly affected, with backups extending for miles in both directions. The Arizona Department of Transportation announced multiple lane closures as the investigation continued. About three hours post-incident, all westbound lanes of I-10 were reopened to traffic.
