Evacuation ordered for 12,000-acre Canyon Lake area due to Siphon Fire

PHOENIX — The Siphon Fire has prompted evacuations in the Canyon Lake and Tortilla Flat areas, as it continues to burn across 12,000 acres of remote terrain in the Superstition Wilderness. The fire, currently at 0% containment, raises concerns for neighboring communities.

Pinal County has placed residents living east of Mountain View Road and west of the Tonto National Forest, between Broadway Road to Lost Dutchman State Park, on “SET” status. Authorities are urging caution as conditions remain precarious.

Officials from the Tonto National Forest confirmed that the rugged nature of the terrain impedes access for ground resources. Two firefighting engines and a Type 1 helicopter have been deployed to combat the blaze.

Local residents and visitors are advised to steer clear of First Water, Boulder, and Siphon Trails as firefighting efforts continue in the area. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with officials working diligently to assess its origins.

The Lost Dutchman State Park has been closed in response to the fire’s rapid spread. Community members continue to share observations, including a distant photograph of the fire taken from the Superstition Mountains.

The situation is being closely monitored, with updates expected as firefighting resources assess and respond to the ongoing threat posed by the Siphon Fire.
