Construction is set to ramp up on the west side of Maricopa in the coming weeks, with significant developments underway at the Moonlight Ridge community. Arlington, Texas-based Forestar Group recently submitted permit paperwork for new signage to promote the upcoming project at the intersection of Smith-Enke and Green Roads, as revealed by a public records request.

The proposed banners, which will be mounted on streetlights along Green Road and Moonlight Drive, aim to highlight various community amenities. These attractions include scenic desert views, walking trails, soccer fields, and an 18-hole disc golf course.

City spokesperson Monica Williams confirmed that developers will complete vital infrastructure, including utilities and roadways in the months ahead. However, she did not provide a specific timeline for the commencement of home construction.

The Moonlight Ridge project plans to develop approximately 2,200 homes on 489 acres, a site that was previously a dairy farm. In tribute to its agricultural past, the homes will feature “farmhouse aesthetics,” according to the developers.

This initiative marks the first activity on the site in over two years. The Maricopa Planning and Zoning Commission granted approval of Forestar’s preliminary plat back in May 2022, which establishes the foundation for the subdivision’s design.

While Forestar Group has not yet commented on the recent developments, the company is already known for its successful projects in Arizona, including Desert Moon Estates in Buckeye and the upcoming Stone Butte East in North Phoenix.
