'30 and older' | 2 bars make changes to minimum age requirements to enter

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two downtown Louisville bars have announced new age restrictions for patrons. Joe’s Palm Room will now permit entry only for those aged 30 and older, effective immediately.

In their social media announcement, the bar highlighted that their primary demographic consists of patrons over 30, aiming to enhance the experience for these loyal customers.

Located in the Russell neighborhood, Joe’s Palm Room operates from noon to midnight, Tuesday through Thursday, extending hours until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and opening at 1 p.m. on Sundays.

Similarly, The Grüv, a two-story sports and lounge bar on West Market Street, will enforce a 30-and-over policy after 9 p.m. on weekends starting August 16. Co-owner Dee Muldrow emphasized the importance of providing a safe and comfortable space, noting that most weekend attendees already fall within this age group.

The Grüv’s operating hours run from 11 a.m. to midnight on Mondays through Thursdays and until 3 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Families are welcome during the week, according to Muldrow.

Both policy changes come shortly after a violent incident in the Highlands, where three people were shot, leading to two fatalities. Muldrow stated that their decision was not a direct response to this event but had been considered for some time.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
