'We will be exonerated': Lori Vallow Daybell speaks from jail in rare interview with NBC's Keith Morrison

In a revealing jailhouse interview, Lori Vallow Daybell, the convicted mother involved in the deaths of her children Tylee and JJ, spoke to Dateline’s Keith Morrison. The interview aired on 12News, providing insights into Vallow Daybell’s tumultuous life.

Vallow Daybell gained initial public attention through appearances on “Wheel of Fortune” and competing in the Miss Texas pageant. However, her life took a darker turn following a series of events leading up to the tragic deaths of her children.

In the special, Vallow Daybell detailed her romance with Chad Daybell, a doomsday author she met at a religious conference in Utah in 2018. Claiming a spiritual connection, Vallow Daybell explained, “I recognized him spiritually,” highlighting beliefs in past-life encounters.

The interview also examined the chaotic circumstances surrounding the death of Vallow Daybell’s former husband, Charles Vallow. In footage from 2019, Charles expresses concern to police, describing Vallow Daybell’s claim that he was possessed by a demon. Notably, he reported a chilling statement from her: “You’re not Charles. I can murder you now.”

The situation escalated in July 2019 when Charles discovered an affair between Vallow Daybell and Chad Daybell. Days later, he was shot and killed, with Vallow Daybell’s brother, Alex Cox, claiming self-defense.

After Charles’s death, Vallow Daybell attempted to collect on a life insurance policy but found she was not the beneficiary. Text messages she sent to Chad Daybell referred to her former husband as “Ned” and suggested knowledge of a policy change preceding his death.

Vallow Daybell subsequently relocated with her children to Rexburg, Idaho. There, she maintained that Tylee was unwell, yet the family visited Yellowstone National Park. Tragically, those outings represent the last known whereabouts of both Tylee and JJ.

The death of Tammy Daybell, Chad’s wife, soon followed, initially ruled as natural. However, after her body was exhumed, the cause was reclassified as asphyxiation, tied to Chad’s assertions that she had become a “zombie,” akin to the fates of Charles and the children.

Evidence gathered by investigators indicated that Alex Cox was potentially connected to the deaths of both Charles and Tammy, as well as an attempt on the life of Brandon Boudreaux, Vallow Daybell’s niece’s ex-husband.

Chad and Lori Daybell married shortly after Charles’s death. In June 2020, authorities discovered the bodies of JJ and Tylee buried in Chad’s backyard. The children were found in gruesome locations: JJ in a pet cemetery and Tylee in a fire pit.

Following her trial, Vallow Daybell was convicted for her children’s murders in 2023 and is now incarcerated in Arizona, facing additional conspiracy charges with jury selection set for March 31.

In a surprising twist during the interview, Vallow Daybell expressed hope for exoneration. She even joked about participating on “Dancing with the Stars” once proven innocent. “We will both be exonerated in the future,” she stated confidently.
