Lopez has 4 hits & 7 RBIs, Flores gets 2 wins in the circle as Pima softball wins 12th straight

The Pima Community College softball team achieved a remarkable feat on Tuesday, extending their winning streak to 12 games with a doubleheader sweep against Scottsdale Community College at the West Campus Aztec Field. The Aztecs, boasting a record of 31-1 overall and 21-1 in ACCAC play, showcased a dominant performance against the Artichokes, who fell to 14-9 overall and 9-9 in the conference.

Freshman Julissa Lopez led the offensive charge, finishing the day with an impressive 4 for 6 at the plate, securing seven RBIs and scoring three runs. Sophomore Alyssa Noriega also made significant contributions, going 4 for 8 with four RBIs and a run, while freshman Jiselle Nunez matched her performance, recording four RBIs of her own, along with three runs from the same number of at-bats. Not to be overlooked, sophomore Aubrey Marx finished 5 for 8 with two RBIs and three runs, and Talia Martin contributed by going 4 for 7, crossing the plate five times. Pitcher Arianna Flores earned two wins, taking control in the circle for both games.

In the first game, the Aztecs triumphed decisively over the Artichokes, winning 12-0 in just five innings. The scoring erupted early, with four runs each in the first three innings. Lopez’s grand slam in the first inning, which brought home Nunez, Noriega, and Natalya Rivera, set the tone. The second inning saw Cheyanne Ortiz contributing with a two-run single, while Lopez capped the scoring with a two-run double in the third. For the game, Lopez led the charge with six RBIs, while Nunez and Noriega each added two RBIs of their own.

Flores was stellar on the mound, pitching a complete game, allowing only one hit, and striking out seven without issuing a walk, resulting in a solid performance on just 75 pitches. The game statistics were telling: Pima CC recorded 11 hits, while SCC was limited to just one.

The second game proved to be a nail-biter, with the Aztecs rallying to win 9-8. Trailing 8-4 going into the seventh inning, Pima staged a dramatic comeback. Back-to-back singles by Lopez and Ortiz started the rally, followed by a sacrifice fly from Amerika Lopez-Bedoy that scored Lopez. The bases became loaded after consecutive walks from Clarissa Figueroa and Martin. With two outs, Noriega delivered a walk-off two-run single, sealing the victory.

Lopez continued her stellar play, getting two hits while Nunez and Noriega each tallied two RBIs. Flores, pitching in relief, grabbed her second win of the day, contributing just over two innings with three strikeouts and one walk.

The Aztecs are set to return to the West Campus Aztec Field this Saturday, where they will face Chandler-Gilbert Community College. The first game is scheduled to start at noon.
