Loma Light Pole Toppler Faces Reckless Driving Charges Amidst Plate and Insurance Violations

Maricopa Police Department responded to a significant crash on Loma Road on February 28, 2025, which resulted in a damaged light pole and multiple citations for the driver involved.
The incident occurred around 6 p.m. when a sedan, driven at a high rate of speed, lost control while navigating a curve near the Maricopa City Public Services and Fire Department offices. Maricopa Police Lt. Gary Gatzke indicated that the driver admitted to misjudging the turn, leading to the crash.
Fortunately, the driver was evaluated by medics on-site and did not require hospitalization. Reports confirm that he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
In addition to the property damage, the driver received citations for reckless driving, operating a vehicle with a suspended registration, and driving without insurance. This incident underscores the importance of safe driving practices in the community.
