North Central resident Robert Melikian has released “Forgotten Phoenix,” a hardcover photography book and memoir that explores the city’s evolving downtown, both historically and in contemporary times.

In the book, Melikian reflects on his teenage adventures in downtown Phoenix during the 1970s, ignited by a worn matchbook from a coffee shop. He juxtaposes his youthful experiences with the vibrant urban life of the 1920s and the ongoing revitalization that his family spearheaded with an old hotel.

While the text highlights iconic landmarks such as the Orpheum Theatre and Rosson House, it also uncovers lesser-known treasures. Readers are invited to rediscover places like the Fox Theatre, Madison Square Garden, and quaint lunch counters that were once the heartbeat of the community.

At 202 pages, “Forgotten Phoenix” is available at Changing Hands Bookstore Phoenix, the Phoenix Art Museum, the State Capitol Museum, and via Amazon.
