LL Flooring closing 94 stores as part of bankruptcy filing. Here's where they are.

LL Flooring, formerly known as Lumber Liquidators, is set to close approximately 25% of its stores while seeking Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. This decision comes amid ongoing negotiations with potential buyers interested in acquiring the business.

CEO Charles Tyson addressed customers in a letter, describing the bankruptcy filing as a necessary step to gain time and financial flexibility in pursuing a sale. He reassured customers that the company continues operations during this process.

The bankruptcy filing occurred in Delaware, with the company announcing plans to shut down 94 stores across 31 states. Despite these closures, over 300 locations will remain operational as LL Flooring seeks new ownership.

As one of the largest flooring retailers in the United States, LL Flooring has faced challenges in recent years. The company’s reputation suffered after a “60 Minutes” investigation revealed hazardous levels of formaldehyde in its products. This resulted in a 2019 settlement where LL Flooring paid $33 million for misleading investors regarding the safety of its laminate flooring.
