LIVE UPDATES: Opening statements to begin in Lori Vallow Daybell's third criminal trial

Sixteen jurors were sworn in Wednesday afternoon for Lori Vallow Daybell’s latest murder conspiracy trial in Phoenix. This marks her third trial within two years, as opening statements are set to begin on Thursday morning.

The trial was postponed twice due to Vallow Daybell’s claims of illness. She faces a murder conspiracy charge related to the alleged plot to kill her niece’s ex-husband, Brandon Boudreaux, in Gilbert.

In October 2019, Boudreaux was shot at by Vallow’s brother outside his home, though he was unharmed. A bullet did shatter his car window during the incident.

Vallow Daybell has previously been convicted in Idaho and Arizona for various offenses, including the deaths of her children, Tylee and JJ, as well as conspiring to kill her ex-husband.

On the first day in court, anticipation was palpable. Public seating filled quickly as over two dozen people waited in line before the proceedings. Judge Beresky confirmed readiness to proceed with opening statements at 10 a.m. local time.

Notably, Vallow Daybell was recently convicted in Maricopa County for conspiring to kill her former husband, Charles Vallow. She previously represented herself in that trial and intends to do so again in the current proceedings. The upcoming trial is expected to last around two weeks.

Investigators believe Vallow Daybell’s deceased brother, Alex Cox, was involved in these conspiracies but was never charged due to his death before legal actions were initiated.

Of the sixteen jurors selected, twelve will deliberate while four serve as alternates.
