Library Transforms: Exciting Upgrades Coming Soon
In early November, the Phoenix Public Library announced important upgrades to the Burton Barr Central Library, located at 1221 N. Central Ave. This 280,000-square-foot facility, which attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors annually, necessitates regular updates and improvements to maintain its iconic status.
The ongoing project consists of two significant capital improvement initiatives targeting various roofs and the fire suppression system. Construction commenced on November 11 and is expected to run through September 2025, with both projects being executed concurrently.
To facilitate these improvements, visitors will encounter limited parking in three different parking lots. Those attending in-person events are encouraged to arrive 15-20 minutes early to secure parking, as sections of the Solar Panel (North) Parking Lot and the east row of the Pill (Center) Parking will be temporarily unavailable.
Additionally, some services may experience temporary closures or relocations. Access to Pulliam Auditorium, one of the library’s largest meeting spaces, will be restricted. However, other meeting rooms and study areas remain available for reservations. Notably, the Children’s Garden, located adjacent to Children’s Place on the first floor, will be closed until February 2025. Despite these changes, regular programming, including StartUpPHX and College Depot initiatives, will proceed as scheduled and can be found on the library’s online calendar.
Throughout the construction period, Burton Barr Central Library will maintain its operations, ensuring minimal disruption to weekly services. For ongoing updates, visit www.phoenixpubliclibrary.org.
