Lake Havasu School Board: Meet Vijette Saari’s Vision for Education

Vijette Saari, a candidate for the Lake Havasu Unified School District’s governing board, is committed to revitalizing local education. Her extensive background spans community service, nonprofit leadership, and government roles, equipping her to tackle pressing challenges like pay disparities and family engagement.

“I believe in the power of education to transform lives,” Saari stated, emphasizing her long-standing ties to Lake Havasu since 2004. With three children in the district, she stresses that schools must be safe havens for quality education, especially during tumultuous times.

Saari’s platform centers on transparency in school operations, competitive staff pay, and functional facilities. She advocates for expanded early education access and compliance with federal laws regarding special education services. “Addressing these areas can strengthen our schools and provide a better learning environment,” she noted.

According to Saari, the primary purpose of the LHUSD School Board is to guarantee high-quality education for all students. “We need to create policies that reflect Lake Havasu City’s needs, fostering community partnerships and family involvement,” she added.

Her qualifications are robust, boasting a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education alongside a Bachelor’s degree in Justice Studies. With certifications as an early childhood developmental specialist, Saari brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, especially in supporting families with developmental disabilities.

Balancing her board responsibilities with personal life is manageable, aided by a supportive family. Saari works as a Grants Manager for Lake Havasu City, allowing her to adjust her schedule effectively while fulfilling her commitments.

Saari believes enhancing Career and Technical Education (CTE) offerings is essential for improving educational experiences. “We need to connect students with local businesses through internships,” she stated, highlighting the need for practical career guidance in today’s job market.

On the role of politics in education, she expressed that school boards should focus on education rather than partisan issues. “Public schools serve the community, and our priority should be every child’s right to a quality education,” Saari emphasized.

What sets Saari apart is her extensive volunteer work in special education, providing her with unique insights. Her involvement in the Thunderbolt Middle School PTSA aims to enhance educational resources and advocate for families needing additional support.

Major challenges facing LHUSD include fostering family involvement and retaining qualified teachers. Saari proposes initiatives to increase parent participation and improve pay scales to attract talent. “Addressing these issues is crucial for our students’ success,” she remarked.
