Lake Havasu City Faces Power and Internet Outage After Truck Strikes Utility Lines

A significant disruption occurred in Lake Havasu City on Tuesday morning when a dump truck reportedly struck power lines on N. Palo Verde Boulevard. As a consequence, approximately 80 UniSource customers and about a dozen Optimum customers lost access to power and internet services.
The affected areas included sections of N. Palo Verde Boulevard, Avalon Avenue, and Arroyo Drive among others. Joe Barrios from UniSource indicated that the accident involved the dump truck hitting telecommunication lines, which subsequently damaged two power cords.
According to information on UniSource’s website, the outage commenced at 8:09 a.m. Crews responded promptly to address the issue. Initially, the restoration time was estimated at 11:30 a.m., but this was later revised to 3:30 p.m. By 2:30 p.m., reports confirmed that power had been restored.
“It’s conceivable that they will be out there into the afternoon, and they’re certainly working to get everyone back as soon as possible, but they will have to finish some of those physical repairs before they can do that,” Barrios explained on Tuesday morning.
Erin Smyth, director of communications for Optimum, reported that around twelve customers were impacted, primarily because of the interruption in utility power service. “Our understanding is that both the power company and Allo Fiber poles/lines were taken down today by a truck, however, there was no damage to any Optimum lines or equipment,” Smyth stated in an email.
Local crews are present at the scene, assisting with the aftermath. Smyth noted that once utility power is restored, all affected Optimum customers in the area should regain their internet services promptly.
