Kelly and Sinema Lavish Accolades on Brother of 9th Circuit Judge Tapped for U.S. District Court

U.S. Senators Mark Kelly and Kyrsten Sinema have expressed strong support for the Biden-Harris Administration’s nomination of Sharad Desai to serve as a U.S. District Court judge. The nomination reflects both federal and local recognition of Desai’s qualifications.
Sharad Desai, currently the Vice President and General Counsel at Honeywell, has substantial legal experience. He previously worked as a civil litigator at the Arizona law firm Osborn Maledon and completed a clerkship with former Arizona Supreme Court Chief Justice Rebecca White Berch.
In a joint press statement, Senator Sinema emphasized Desai’s qualifications: “He possesses the experience, integrity, and intellect to serve as a federal judge in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona.” She asserted pride in recommending his nomination and expressed hope for his bipartisan confirmation.
Senator Kelly echoed these sentiments, highlighting Desai’s reputation in Arizona’s legal community. He remarked, “I congratulate him on this important nomination and look forward to working towards his confirmation in the United States Senate.”
Sharad Desai’s nomination and the legal prowess of his family members may draw attention during his confirmation hearing. His sister, Roopali Desai, a sitting 9th Circuit Court Judge, recently mentioned the supportive role of her brother and sister, an Arizona law professor, during her own confirmation process.
The political implications of Roopali Desai’s history, particularly her background as an election lawyer and involvement in Senator Sinema’s campaigns, could influence perceptions of Sharad Desai’s nomination. These dynamics may play a significant role in discussions surrounding his upcoming confirmation hearing.
