Karrin Taylor Robson Champions Trump’s Backing for Arizona Governor Race in 2026

PHOENIX — Karrin Taylor Robson has officially declared her candidacy for the Arizona governorship in 2026, marking a significant comeback after her previous defeat to Kari Lake in the 2022 GOP primary.
This time around, Taylor Robson is leveraging the support of former President Donald Trump, who endorsed her during a rally in Phoenix last December. “Are you running for governor? I think so, Karrin because if you do, you’re going to have my support,” Trump remarked.
In her campaign kickoff video, Trump’s presence is heavily emphasized, featuring his name and image prominently throughout the clip. The narrator confidently states, “Karrin Taylor Robson is answering President Trump’s call.” This strategic alignment comes after Taylor Robson invested $17 million in her previous campaign, which ultimately fell short against Lake.
Political analysts observe that Trump’s backing may unify the Republican Party behind Taylor Robson, especially in light of potential competition from Congressman Andy Biggs. Marson Media consultant Barrett Marson noted, “Once Karrin starts trumpeting that endorsement, I think you will see the party coalesce around her.” Biggs, a seasoned politician known for his deep red district seat, poses a serious consideration for primary dynamics. Marson contrasted the appeal of Lake’s candidacy to Taylor Robson’s positioning, stating, “Kari Lake was Donald Trump in a dress, while Andy Biggs is not Donald Trump in a rumpled suit.”
On a personal note, Taylor Robson’s political pedigree is noteworthy. She is married to billionaire homebuilder Ed Robson and comes from a politically active family. Her brother, Andy Kunasek, previously served on the Maricopa County Board, and her father, Carl Kunasek, held a significant role in the Arizona state legislature.
In response to Taylor Robson’s announcement, Biggs expressed gratitude for his relationship with Trump while keeping his own plans closely guarded. He indicated that he would weigh his options carefully as the campaign unfolds.
The political landscape as the election approaches is complicated by Trump’s fluctuating popularity. Democratic consultant Stacy Pearson pointed out that while Trump’s endorsement might offer immediate benefits, it could evolve into a liability as voters weigh their options two years from now. “Trump’s support for Karrin could very well be a liability by the time the election rolls around,” Pearson remarked.
Meanwhile, current Governor Katie Hobbs, who has successfully navigated two statewide elections, does not face significant primary opposition. With the Arizona primary set for 2026, Hobbs’s strategy will focus on achieving legislative victories in her remaining terms, countering a Republican majority intent on challenging her governorship.
