Kamala Harris’s Fundraising Surge: How Much the VP Has Amassed in Her Presidential Bid
Vice President Kamala Harris received President Joe Biden’s endorsement following his decision to end his reelection campaign on Sunday, a move that saw millions in donations pour in from supporters.
WASHINGTON — A historic shift in the 2024 election landscape unfolded as President Joe Biden announced he would not seek reelection, less than a month ahead of the Democratic National Convention.
In a social media post, Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, leading to an overwhelming financial boost for her campaign.
According to ActBlue, a political fundraising platform, the Harris campaign amassed $27.5 million within the first five hours of Biden’s announcement.
A social media post from ActBlue stated that grassroots donors were eager to back Harris as the new Democratic nominee.
This surge in funding supplements the $91 million already in the Biden campaign’s account, which Harris can now access.
The Biden campaign has officially changed its name to Harris for President, as per records filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC). Nevertheless, Harris will not automatically assume the Democratic nomination. Party delegates will finalize their choice at the Democratic National Convention scheduled for August 19-22 in Chicago.
Kamala Harris has already garnered endorsements from key Democratic figures. These include Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, former Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro.
Prominent Democrats such as former President Barack Obama and former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi have yet to publicly support Harris.
Election Day is set for November 5.
